About Pool Equipment Lab

Pool Equipment Lab was created to help pool owners make better-informed decisions about the equipment that keeps their pools running.

Pool pumps, filters, salt systems, heaters, cleaners, and automation equipment can represent a significant investment. Comparing them isn't always easy. Specifications can be technical, product lines can overlap, compatibility matters, and the cheapest equipment to purchase isn't necessarily the least expensive equipment to own.

Our goal is to make those decisions easier to understand.

What We Do

Pool Equipment Lab researches and compares swimming pool equipment using manufacturer documentation, technical specifications, compatibility requirements, operating costs, warranties, owner experiences, and other relevant information.

We turn that research into equipment guides, product evaluations, comparisons, calculators, and practical resources designed to help readers understand the differences between their options.

Rather than simply telling you which product is "best," we aim to explain why one option may make more sense than another for a particular pool, budget, installation, or priority.

What We Cover

Our research focuses primarily on the major equipment systems used to operate residential swimming pools.

Pool Pumps

We research variable-speed pumps, single-speed and specialty pumps, energy consumption, flow considerations, automation compatibility, warranties, and long-term operating costs.

Pool Filters

Our filter coverage includes cartridge, sand, and diatomaceous earth systems along with filter sizing, maintenance requirements, replacement media, flow rates, and ownership considerations.

Salt Systems

We examine salt chlorine generators, cell sizing, expected chlorine output, replacement-cell considerations, compatibility, warranties, and ongoing ownership costs.

Pool Heaters

Our heater research may include gas heaters, heat pumps, sizing considerations, efficiency, climate considerations, installation requirements, operating costs, and equipment compatibility.

Pool Cleaners

We compare robotic, suction-side, pressure-side, and other pool-cleaning equipment based on factors such as pool compatibility, cleaning capabilities, filtration, maintenance, features, and ownership costs.

Pool Automation

Pool automation can connect pumps, heaters, lighting, sanitation equipment, water features, and other systems. We research platform compatibility, capabilities, expansion options, controls, and equipment requirements.

Research Before Recommendation

Pool Equipment Lab is built around research rather than simply producing lists of popular products.

When evaluating equipment, we look for differences that can materially affect the buying decision. Depending on the product, that may include performance specifications, energy consumption, installation requirements, compatibility, maintenance, replacement parts, warranty coverage, and long-term ownership costs.

Our methodology is explained in greater detail on our How We Research Pool Equipment page.

Research Is Not the Same as Hands-On Testing

We believe readers should know the difference between a researched product evaluation and firsthand product testing.

Many Pool Equipment Lab articles are based on detailed research rather than physical testing. We may analyze manufacturer documentation, specifications, installation manuals, warranty information, compatibility requirements, owner feedback, and other available evidence.

We do not claim that we personally tested a product unless we actually did.

If we conduct hands-on testing, we may identify that separately so readers understand the basis for the evaluation.

Why Ownership Cost Matters

The purchase price of pool equipment tells only part of the story.

A pump that costs more initially may use less electricity. A salt system may eventually require a replacement cell. A filter may have different ongoing maintenance or replacement-media costs. A heater's operating cost can vary dramatically depending on fuel, climate, pool size, and usage.

Where reliable information is available, Pool Equipment Lab may analyze these longer-term costs to help readers compare the potential financial impact of different equipment choices.

Calculators and Original Analysis

We are developing calculators and comparison tools designed to turn technical equipment information into practical estimates.

These tools may help readers compare factors such as energy use, operating costs, equipment sizing, potential savings, or other measurable differences.

Calculations are based on stated assumptions and available data. Actual results can vary depending on pool conditions, utility rates, climate, installation, equipment settings, and usage.

Independent Editorial Standards

Pool Equipment Lab may generate revenue through advertising and affiliate relationships. These relationships help support the cost of operating and developing the site.

They do not determine our editorial conclusions.

The availability of an affiliate commission or advertising relationship should not determine which product we recommend or how we evaluate equipment.

You can learn more about these standards in our Editorial Policy, Affiliate Disclosure, and Advertising Disclosure.

Accuracy and Corrections

Pool equipment changes. Manufacturers release new models, discontinue older equipment, revise specifications, update documentation, and change warranty terms.

We may update existing content when meaningful new information becomes available.

If you believe we've published an incorrect specification, compatibility requirement, calculation, or other factual detail, we want to know about it.

Corrections and supporting documentation can be sent to text4golf@gmail.com.

Who Pool Equipment Lab Is For

Pool Equipment Lab is designed primarily for pool owners who want to understand their equipment options before spending money.

Whether you're replacing an aging pump, considering a salt system, comparing heaters, choosing a robotic cleaner, upgrading automation, or planning equipment for a new pool, our goal is to help you understand the tradeoffs before making the decision.

Our Goal

Pool equipment shouldn't require becoming an engineer just to make a smart purchase.

Our goal is to research the complicated parts, explain the meaningful differences, and give you the information and tools needed to choose equipment with greater confidence.
